Irish Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier
Originating from Ireland, the Wheaten Terrier is an all-purpose breed with skills that include herding, watching and guarding livestock, and vermin hunting and killing. Weighing in at up to 45 pounds, these dogs have human-like hair that does not shed like most dogs, it will continue to grow without grooming and needs to be combed everyday. Wheaten puppies are typically dark in color, then lighten up to almost white by maturity. They have four coat types, Traditional Irish, Heavy Irish, English, and American, with differences only being in thickness.
Wheaten Terriers are rarely aggressive. They are wonderful dogs, they love to jump up and lick your face. They are great around children and other dogs, although need to be introduced slowly with cats. They do still maintain their prey drive and may go after small animals. They are also best suited for a colder climate, as they can over-heat easily in hot weather. They are very smart dogs and easy to train.
